British Values

Our school is a very special community. St Leonard’s children represent all different races and faiths and we work together to promote British Values in the following ways:

Our shared core School Values are embedded in all aspects of the school’s life. These are:

Love

Respect

Responsibility

and we encourage all staff, children and parents to model these at school at all times.

The school is a Church of England School and prepares pupils positively for life in modern Britain by providing a broad and balanced curriculum and by developing children’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural education.  Collective Worship, which is mainly Christian based, is central to the life of the school.

The school promotes the fundamental British values of democracy and models this through an elected School Council which reports directly to Class Council.

The school promotes the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith. It has an effective Behaviour Management policy with clear rewards and a stepped series of consequences. Our Anti-Bullying policy has an agreed definition of bullying and children know what they must do in order for adults to stop bullying.

We believe in equality of opportunity.  This does not mean that everyone should be treated the same, but that we should adapt the way we treat people according to their need or ability so that everyone can be integrated into our happy, caring school.

We engage in fundraising activities for a variety of charities and events and the children often plan and organise these with the goal of helping, in a small way, to make the lives of others better.

Our aim in promoting these British Values is to create well-rounded individuals who can make good choices.
