At St. Leonard’s we wish to engage, challenge and inspire children from the very beginning of their learning journey. Our Early Years Education is carefully structured within a well organised, safe and enabling environment, offering children rich and stimulating experiences, building on what children already know and providing opportunities to develop what they need to know next.

Through a careful balance of child initiated, adult initiated and adult led activities we aim to encourage independence, self-regulation, cooperation, creativity, communication and problem solving. We plan an exciting and challenging curriculum based on our observation of children’s needs, interests and next steps. We use stories and rhymes as the basis for our planning, which means that by the end of Reception children will have encountered a wide range of high quality texts to inspire a lifetime love of reading.
